What would ordinarily be a week-long VBS adventure has been condensed into 10 hours of fun spread out between Friday night, June 9, and most of the day on Saturday, June 10. This intergenerational program is run entirely by volunteers who have been background checked and trained to bring the world of ancient Rome to life for families both big and small. Whether you're tasting new foods or making crafts in the marketplace, visiting the apostle Paul or participating in a mock chariot race, your whole family will have tons of fun in Rome!
You can find a more detailed schedule, incuding mealtimes, on the eventbrite registration webpage, but here are the basics.
Friday, June 9: 6-8pm
Saturday, June 10: 10am-8pm (includes lunch and dinner)
There are five segments of activities, each themed around a different Bible point from Paul's letter to the Romans. Each segment follows this pattern:
Extollo - learn fun songs with new ones introduced each segment
Family Time - participants gather in small Roman Family groups
Rotations - visit the marketplace, check in on Paul, tiptoe to the Underground Church, and play games that change with each segment. A new surprise drama appears in each segment.
Family Time - Roman Family groups discuss the drama and the Bible Point
Extollo - each segment closes with more singing!
This is an intergenerational program, meant for adults, teens, and children to participate together. While parents can drop off their children and go do other things during the program, families who participate together make great memories and can take time to bond at a relaxed pace. Children younger than 5 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
This event is completely free! There are no registration fees and food is included. Pretend currency "Roman denarii" are used to "purchase" crafts and snacks during marketplace rotations.
Please do! Participants often have so much fun Friday night that they want to invite others to join them on Saturday. We encourage all participants to register on the eventbrite page linked above so that we can plan enough food and craft materials for attendees, but we always prepare extras just in case. Let us know Friday night if you want to bring a friend the next day! We have a hard cap of 60 attendees for this event.
Ancient Rome has been brought much closer to home! The event will be held outside in the field beside Edmonds Adventist Church. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to inside the church building.
